Technical Workwear
Designing high-quality workwear requires a clear understanding of the user’s needs. Effective workwear adapts to the movements of the job — it should not restrict, squeeze, overheat, or chafe, while still maintaining a professional appearance. It should protect the wearer from dirt and hazards and be easy to put on and use.
Work environments can involve many different factors, such as temperature variations, chemicals, and visibility requirements. Workwear design must take these conditions and potential hazards into account to ensure that garments provide sufficient protection and comfort in all situations.

Standards and Requirements
The Occupational Safety and Health Act sets requirements for the use of workwear and especially protective clothing. Employers must provide employees with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) that meets the required regulations. The law also obligates employees to properly use and maintain this equipment.
Regulations regarding workwear can also be found in other legislation. The Finnish Government Decision 1406/1993 defines the essential health and safety requirements for personal protective equipment, including ergonomics, protection level, and user comfort.
These requirements are further complemented by harmonized SFS-EN standards, which set more specific technical requirements and testing methods for workwear. For example:
SFS-EN ISO 20471 specifies requirements for high-visibility warning clothing.
SFS-EN 342 covers protective clothing for cold environments.
SFS-EN 343 concerns protection against rain and wet weather conditions.
Workwear that complies with these standards ensures the highest possible level of protection and comfort for workers in various working environments.
